Carlos Ramsey is an internationally recognized artist with work hanging in various U.S. cities, France, Italy, Germany, Iceland, England, Japan, Chile, Argentina, Denmark, Egypt, and Kenya. In 2001 he contributed to the Biennale in Venice, Italy and traveled extensively in Europe. He returned to New York in July 2001 and by September 11th everything changed. As an Employee of Frenkle and Company, on the 44th Floor of World Trade Center 2, he quit his temporary job 3 weeks before 9/11. He knew friends within the WTC and their deaths changed his life. He began to think of family and re-evaluate his current position. NYC was not the same and his ideas of importance changed. In 2003 he returned to California to see the birth of his niece and visit with family and life long friends when he decided to stay and become a teacher. After five years he is returning to his love of art with renewed vigor and expression developing the ideas he began in New York and infusing them with his travels in South Asia to Thailand, Cambodia, India and Nepal.

My use of images is derived from the lines that surround a subject. I enjoy the process of deconstruction, breaking a figure or subject down to its simplest parts. It’s a challenge to create an image using limited lines and still maintain the recognition of the subject. At times my ideas spring from a single line and develop into a conceptual piece, other times I have an entire outline and the drawing evolves in the transcription from mind to paper. Economy of motion determines the outcome.

"The fewer the lines the more important each line"
